Random Thoughts

It's 91 degrees in Belleville today. With the 66 percent humidity, it feels like 106 degrees. Yuck. Nothing like summer in St. Louis. This is the time of years when I wish I had more normal working hours so I can ride in the evening or early morning. I didn't get out at all today because I watched Ronald Reagan's funeral. It was a moving experience, even if Bill and Hillary Clinton were falling asleep. President Bush and former Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney were particularly eloquent.

I have been snakebit as far as my cycling is concerned this year. Last year at this time, I had already completed two multiday rides, the Florida Bicycle Safari and the Tour of Quebec. A year ago this week, I was enjoying the sights, sounds and tastes of Quebec City, one of the most amazing cities in North America. By contrast, I rode 36.5 miles on Tuesday, my longest ride of the year. I need to get a lot more of those in before August, when I ride the West Shoreline Tour. I also had broken spokes on two consecutive Wednesday Evening Rides of the Belleville Area Bicycling and Eating Society. I hope the rest of June goes much better than this.
