Yes, I do!
First, you hop onto an airplane at Lambert-St. Louis International Airport. Take said plane to O'Hare International Airport in Chicago. Hop on another plane that takes you to San Jose. Pretty simple, eh?
The reason I am out here is because Knight Ridder, the parent company of the Belleville News-Democrat, had a visual journalism conference that started Sunday night and got done Wednesday at lunchtime. Thursday night is the start of the Society of News Design annual workshop, and I am sticking around for that as well since it, too, is in San Jose.
I will be in California all of next week as well. I had originally slotted that week so I could do Cycle North Carolina. But I had second thoughts about CNC after the way I rode during the West Shoreline Tour. I learned the week after Shoreline that I would be making the business trip to California the week before my vacation, so I figured I would stick around here another week and see a part of the world I had never seen before. I considered a bike tour out here, but most of the rides were too rich for my blood. One, a fund-raiser from San Francisco to Los Angeles, would have been good if I known about the business trip and ride much earlier. The catch for that ride was that I would have had to raise a minimum of $2,900! Wow!
Instead, I will be exploring Monterey, San Francisco and spending three days hiking in Yosemite National Park. Perhaps I will get some inspiration from the spirit of Ansel Adams and take some fantastic photos while I'm there. We'll see.
Shoreline Tour update: No, I am nowhere close to completing the article about the 2004 West Shoreline Tour. Just too many things to do in preparation for the California trip and several other projects I have been doing for work and outside work. Sorry, and keep posted!
