The hard knocks of cycling

A couple of high-profile folks have had a rough go on the bike in the last couple of days.

Of course, there's Lance Armstrong. Armstrong suffered a broken collarbone during the first stage of the Tour of Castilla y Leon in central Spain on Monday, an injury that could threaten to disrupt his bid to win a record eighth Tour de France title this summer as well as racing in the Giro d'Italia.

The 37-year-old fell along with several other riders about 32 miles from the finish line. You can see video here. (Hat tip to Fritz over at Cyclelicious!)

Secondly, "Today" show co-host Matt Lauer had a run-in with a deer while bicycling on Long Island this weekend, injuring his shoulder and forcing him to miss the Monday show, NBC reported.

"He was riding his bike over the weekend and he had a run-in with a deer," co-host Meredith Vieira said, according to the NBC Web site report.
