Several Missouri news outlets have posted stories about the possibility that Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon's administration may cut off $1.5 million in state funding for the Tour of Missouri bicycle race:I'm sympathetic to the desires of Missouri leaders to balance the budget -- I live in a state, Illinois, that has a much more serious financial crisis than Missouri -- and I believe in the long run the Tour of Missouri has to ween itself off state funding. However, I think the $1.5 million is money well-spent because of the tourism dollar and international attention the race brings to Missouri.
